An 8 X 8 ft sloped slatted manure separator is mounted on a platform raised above a dry concrete platform. Flushing fluid enters through mid-level central intake openings, which reduce fluid velocity to a minimum in the upper panel of the grill. Then the fluid flows by gravity through hundreds of horizontal holes, the size of which gradually increases from top to bottom to keep as many fibers as possible on the grate. The fiber itself acts as a filter to keep small particles from passing through the grating. The liquid that has passed through the grate is discharged under the influence of gravity through an 8-inch (203 mm) hole, and the fiber slides and stacks in a pile on the concrete floor below.
